Policy on Wireless Networks

Open as: PDF or Word Document

As of August 1, 2007, NEMRC does not endorse, recommend or support the use of wireless networking for use with its software until further notice.

Wireless routers may be used to provide Internet services only, provided there is also a wired network for NEMRC applications.

Problems identified with network performance, security, and the operation of NEMRC software, have been associated with wireless networking.

Wireless networks which are not encrypted and are open access points are possible security risks for town information, as data can be grabbed from the air by sophisticated users.

NEMRC therefore cannot with good faith offer support to towns that use wireless networking for NEMRC software.
